Capture Software

A versatile portable software solution for rich media presentation capture

In production scenarios where portability, flexibility, and cost are the primary concerns, Desire2Learn® Capture Station Software is a convenient alternative to the Desire2Learn Capture Station Hardware. While Capture Stations are designed to provide unprecedented power, quality, and reliability in an all-in-one hardware package, Desire2Learn Capture Station Software can be installed on standard PC laptops or other machines to provide a lower-cost, highly portable way to capture Rich Media presentations. While hardware and software Capture Stations excel in different production scenarios, both provide online audiences with the same intuitive, interactive viewing experience through the Desire2Learn Capture Portal.

Present from the comfort of your home or office

Laptop and Camera

Presenters such as university lecturers, corporate trainers, or health care professionals may prefer to deliver a Rich Media presentation from the casual comfort of their own home or office. Desire2Learn Capture Station Software can be installed directly on a presenter's laptop, allowing them to deliver a presentation using nothing more than a webcam, microphone, and PowerPoint slides. In situations where professional audio/video equipment is unnecessary or unavailable, Desire2Learn Capture Station Software turns a standard PC into a personalized Rich Media presentation capture solution capable of giving online audiences close to the same quality content as would be achieved by professional gear in a large lecture hall.

A highly portable way to capture presentations at different locations

Portable webcasting solutions

For audio/video production companies and other organizations that travel between different event sites to webcast or record presentations, the need to carry along and a full audio/video setup can be a significant inconvenience. With Capture Station Software, a high-performance PC laptop and a consumer-level camcorder is all you need to capture presentations from any location. Attach a small VGA or DVI capture device to your laptop, and Capture Station Software gives you the ability to incorporate slides and video from the presenter's screen into your Rich Media presentation. A compact, highly portable webcasting solution relieves you of the stress involved in transporting, setting up, and then tearing down a complex audio/video production setup.

Presentation capture for tight budgets

We recognize that not every production scenario calls for the high-end PC hardware and state of the art components included in our Capture Station Hardware. Capture Station Software gives organizations with tight budgets the option of creating low-cost webcasting solutions that suit their specific requirements. Build a custom Rich Media capture solution with Capture Station Software and save.

Audio / Video recommendations

Your camera and microphone must be supported by Flash. You can determine whether this is the case by checking your Flash settings:

  • Visit the http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ for a Flash settings test
  • Right click on the flash movie (the area that displays your flash version).
  • Select "Settings..." from the drop-down list.
  • Click on the webcam tab.
  • Find your camera in the list.
  • Click on the webcam icon to test. If it works, it should display your webcam feed.
  • Click on the microphone tab.
  • Find your microphone in the list.
  • Talk into your microphone. If it's working, you should see activity on the activity bar.

Flash sometimes does not recognize a DV camcorder microphone as an audio source. We have had success with WebcamDV, a 3rd-party driver that allows your camcorder to be used in applications that exhibit this behavior.
